Vacancy: Temporary Public Relations Specialist

The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is a Statutory Corporation established by the Investment and Export Promotion Act of 2012.  It is mandated to attract, promote, encourage and facilitate investment in all sectors of our economy and to find export markets for goods and services manufactured in Malawi. It is there to fast track, ease and minimize cost of doing business in Malawi for both new and existing companies by offering efficient and reliable one stop services to the business community.

An excellent and rare opportunity has arisen to engage qualified, highly motivated and well experienced person(s) to fill the following vacant positions at MITC.

Job Title              :    Temporary Public Relations Specialist
Responsible to    :    Chief Executive Officer (MITC1)

General Description
The Temporary Public Relations Specialist will be responsible both for preparation of promotional materials and for coordination and execution of public relations activity, working closely with staff of the Investment and Trade Promotion and Planning and Research Departments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Coordinating development of investment promotion materials.
    • In consultation with the Investment and Trade Promotion Departments, designing a series of written promotional materials, including brochures, investors guide and sector information
    • Organizing and/or executing  drafting and layout of promotional materials and coordinating printing
  2. Designing and executing programme of public relations activity aimed at local and international audiences.
    • Directing and/or executing press relations efforts, including preparation of press release of newsworthy events relating to MITC’s activities and/or investment activity in Malawi.
    • Conducting MITC’s public relations programme with the press, academia, business groups, the government, and the public at large.
    • Preparing public notices and advertisements to inform the public of important developments relating to foreign and domestic investment promotion and trade-related issues.

    • Coordinating meetings with local and foreign press visiting MITC and provide information on investment and trade conditions and opportunities in Malawi
    • Developing and maintaining up-to-date “press kit” of key information and contacts relating to investment, trade and general business activities in Malawi.

    • Organizing and executing a programme of daily scanning of local press and clipping of articles involving MITC activities and investment and trade activities in Malawi.  Compile and make clippings available to MITC staff and Board of Directors on a regular basis.

    • Coordinating and executing preparation of speeches, articles and background papers of MITC activities and investments trends.
Major Working Relationships
The Temporary Public Relations Specialist will work closely with management and staff of the Investment and Trade Promotion and Planning and Research Departments.  He/she will also be required to maintain good working relationships with local and international media representatives, as well as with public affairs officers in local and international government and corporate entities.  He/she will also need to work with local and international printers and graphic artists, in designing and printing promotional materials.

Qualifications
The Temporary Public Relations Specialist should hold a Bachelors degree of Arts (Humanities), Journalism, Mass communication, Media studies with at least five years’ experience in public relations. This position requires maturity, with strong interpersonal skills, public speaking proficiency and the ability to interact with the public.
