Location
- The crop favours the highlands of shire in the district of Thyolo, Mulanje and Zomba and the northern highlands of Nkhatabay, misuku hills, phoka hills, viphya north area and south east of Mzimba area with annual rainfall range of 2000mm to 1500mm.
- The temperature growing range is 21.9 0C and 70 C. The growing altitude is 900m to 3000m.
- Production and Supply Capacity
- Coffee production quantities have had cyclic trend with high volumes in 2009 of 5510MT and 4150 MT in 2011 and registered the highest in 2013 of 5684 MT.
- Coffee grown areas remain relatively small and produced by a limited number of producers. The trade in for producing coffee rather than maize and other crops has been the main factor contributing to low volumes of coffee being produced.
- Malawi has got capacity to produce more coffee and increase its supply capacity.
