In a bid to strengthen business ties between Malawi and Indonesia, the office of Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia hosted a business meeting with Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC).
The meeting aimed at discussing ways in which Malawi and Indonesia can work together in facilitating trade and investments between the two countries. During the meeting experts from Indonesia working in mining, energy, agriculture, ICT and engineering made presentations through zoom to showcase different opportunity areas that Malawi could benefit from.
Chief Executive Officer for MITC, Paul Kwengwere said:
"As MITC one of the strategies we are using in our investment promotion efforts is to work with foreign missions both in the country and those outside. We believe that these are the best promotional agents that can help us to get the right kind of investors who can come and establish their businesses in Malawi.’
"We understand that one of the keys to successful lead generation and business facilitation is the local knowledge of the target region. So our aim is to work with embassies as we are doing today with Indonesia because they will help us in identifying potential investors who might be interested to explore the investment and trade opportunities that we have as a country."
Ambassador of Indonesia to Malawi, His Excellency Herry Sudradjat, said Indonesia is committed to working with MITC in promoting Malawi as an ideal investment destination for Indonesian investors.
"We are excited to work with MITC in promoting the opportunities that Malawi has to Indonesian investors. We know Malawi, just like Indonesia, is a good destination for investment because of the abundance of natural resources, a peaceful and stable environment but also a large and growing market. So there is so much that the two countries can benefit from each other through improved inflows of trade and investments."
Malawi established formal diplomatic relations with Indonesia in 2014.
